International Humanitarian Law is still subject to continuous evolution. It is the law both of the international and the internal armed conflicts or civil wars, as well as of armed conflicts which have been internationalized. This work raises the question whether non-international armed conflicts become international or can be internationalized and specifies the requirements for this processes. This work aims to identify ways to improve the conditions during the armed confrontations, the protection of the parties and of the victims of the armed conflict, while the prosecution of the persons responsible for serious violations of IHL is not part of the study. Improving the protection standards in times when the number of international armed conflicts has decreased while the internal armed conflicts has increased in number and in intensity is the key function of the internationalization of internal armed conflicts. El Derecho Internacional Humanitario se encuentra en continua evolucion. Encuentra aplicacion tanto en conflictos armados internacionales como en los internos (guerras civiles), y en aquellos que por diferentes circunstancias han sido internacionalizados. Este estudio pretende precisar las condiciones exigidas para la internacionalizacion de los conflictos armados internos. Con ello no se esta haciendo referencia a la persecucion penal despues del conflicto, sino a la salvaguardia de las partes y de las victimas durante el mismo. Es este el punto fundamental de la internacionalizacion de conflictos internos, mas aun, cuando la cantidad de conflictos interestatales ha disminuido con el tiempo, mientras el de guerras civiles se ha incrementado, cada vez con mayor brutalidad, atacando tambien a los civiles indefensos, obligando, incluso, a los ninos a portar armas y participar de las confrontaciones militares.
