Notes on the nest and nestlings of the Yellow-crowned Redstart (Myioborus flavivertex: Parulidae). - The Yellow-crowned Redstart (Myioborus flavivertex) is a species endemic to the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, Colombia, for which detailed information on its reproductive biology is lacking. Based on observations made in the northwestern sector of the Sierra Nevada in 2007 and 2008, we present information on four nests, including data on habitat, nest architecture, and, whenever possi- ble, eggs, nestlings, and parental behavior. Nests were similar to those constructed by other species of Myioborus in terms of shape and materials, and also in their location on earthen banks close to the ground. At least two nesting pairs used exotic pine leaves to build their nests, and one pair constructed a separate nest that was connected to the active one. We discuss the use of this novel material and the possible significance of building more than one nest in the same area. Nesting in this species appears to coincide with that of several other species that breed during the second and third quarters of the year in San Lorenzo.
