Introduccion: la violencia destruye el tejido social y la felicidad que muchas personas tratan de construir. Por esto entre seres humanos, cambiantes y variables, es necesario una relacion donde intercambien conocimientos, ideas, pensamientos y manera de ver las cosas, pues es una forma de reducir riesgo y obtener nueva informacion; pero todas las personas por el medio en donde viven o por muchas situaciones que les toca experimentar, tienen conceptos diferentes, los cuales en ocasiones no dejan que esa intercomunicacion o relacion sea la adecuada1. Una relacion que debe ser directa, buena y clara, es la relacion paciente-profesional de la salud, pues estan implicitos factores biosicosociales que requieren un manejo adecuado. El paciente necesita que el trabajador de la salud le de confianza y seguridad frente a su proceso salud-enfermedad; por tanto se considera importante plantear esta investigacion para caracterizar comportamientos violentos entre pacientes y profesionales de la salud, en el servicio de quirurgicas de una Institucion de III grado de complejidad, durante el ano 2008. Materiales y metodos: investigacion cualitativa a traves de grupos focales, tomando como poblacion referente los trabajadores de la salud y pacientes del servicio de quirurgicas de una institucion de III grado de complejidad de la ciudad de Pereira. Resultados: se espera identificar los diferentes tipos de violencia y sus posibles desencadenantes, que permitan generar estrategias de solucion de conflictos adecuados para minimizarlos. The patient needs to health workers, who meet, we trust and security in front of his health-disease process, therefore it is important that the project poses to characterize violent behaviour among patients and health professionals in service of a surgical institution III degree of complexity during 2008. Materials and methods: the methodology used because of the type of study is a qualitative research through focus groups. Taking population as regards health workers and patients in the surgical service of an institution III degree of complexity of the city of Pereira Results: is expected to identify the different types of violence and its possible triggers, which can generate estragias conflict resolution suitable for minimizing these acts.
