This workshop presents the Visible Thinking approach as a flexible framework for enriching classroom learning in the content areas, fostering students’ intellectual development, and responding to the ideal aspirations for good thinking and learning. Visible Thinking makes thinking an explicit, visible part of the classroom learning experience. By making thinking visible, students can be more metacognitive and can think about their thinking; the school becomes a place where things are not about memorizing content but about exploring ideas; when students make thinking visible to themselves and to others, they develop a deeper understanding of content, and they can improve their thinking and their learning. During this session we will explore a practical way of implementing the Visible Thinking approach in the English classroom, through a series of “Thinking Routines” activities, as a means to help learners develop their thinking and learning abilities, at the same time as they develop better attitudes toward thinking and learning English.
