Introduccion: se exploro el nivel de adaptacion al medio familiar y social, de personas entre 20 y 45 anos de edad, egresados de una institucion especializada en salud mental, en el ano 2009. Metodos: estudio descriptivo, transversal. Muestreo no aleatorio, correspondio a 30 personas que asistieron a control por consulta externa de julio a septiembre de 2009, y aceptaron participar voluntariamente con la firma del consentimiento informado. Se aplico encuesta sobre caracteristicas generales, apoyo familiar y escala de adaptacion al medio social. Se realizo analisis univariado y bivariado en Epiinfo 2002. Resultados: los trastornos mentales mas frecuentes fueron: depresion, trastornos afectivos y adicciones; mostraron inicio a edades tempranas. Se observo mayor desadaptacion en personas sin trabajo y en aquellas con apoyo familiar deficiente. Conclusion: se reafirmo la importancia de fortalecer las actividades de promocion y prevencion de salud mental a nivel intrafamiliar, y de salud ocupacional en las instituciones. Pereira, 2009 Introduction: we explored the level of adaptation to family and social environment, managed by people between 20 and 45 years old, graduated from an institution specializing in mental health in 2009. Methods: a descriptive, transversal. Non-random sampling, corresponded to 30 people who attended outpatient control, from July to September 2009 and agreed to participate voluntarily signed written consent form. A survey of general characteristics, family support and level of social adaptation to the environment. We performed univariate and bivariate analysis using Epi Info 2002. Results: the most frequent mental disorders: depression, mood disorders and addictions; show beginning at early ages. A greater maladjustment in people without jobs and those with poor family support. Conclusion: we reaffirmed the importance of strengthening advocacy and mental health prevention at the domestic and occupational health in the institutions.
