In this paper, a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) is used to overcome difficulties identified from the student and professors perspective when participating in an Object Oriented Programming (OOP) class. A Blended Learning strategy is used for the students to self-evaluate their concepts and skills gained in class, and from there, perform on-line activities to improve or solve theoretical or practical gaps in a particular OOP subject. The VLE is implemented in DOKEOS and evaluated by first-year engineering students in Universidad Autonoma de Bucaramanga. It is shown that by implementing additional learning strategies such as student-centered learning supported by technology, an effective complement is achieved when teaching OOP.
