Based on a literature review of the study on mineralization pedigree, it is pointed out in this paper that, mineralization pedigree featured by regular evolution of minerogenetic series (or sub-series) with the evolution history of the earth and by the long-term concentration of metal elements or mineralization materials. In fact, regional pedigree of mineralization can be referred to as the evolution history of regional mineralization and as the distribution law of mineral resources. By applying the typical example of the Xiaohongshan iron deposit discovered recently, it is emphasized in this paper that great potential exists in exploration of iron deposits in the eastern Tianshan area, as can be viewed from the iron mineralization pedigree. By studying and comparing the iron mineralization pedigrees in Altay, in eastern Tianshan and in the north margin of the North China landmass, the author believes that it is possible to discover new mineralization, new ore deposit type and new ore bodies around and/or below the existing orebodies in mining areas via a new assessment of the resource potential and new prospecting works.
