Este ensayo representa una reinterpretacion de los resultados de la investigacion realizada por el autor sobre el desarrollo de la educacion en la provincia de Neiva de 1819-1861. Parte de una contextualizacion de la provincia desde el punto de vista economico y conceptual para identificar como periodos de analisis, el de influencia santanderista (1819-1840), el social-cristiano o del utopismo cristiano (1841-1848) y el liberalismo radical (1849-1857) que culmina con unos gobiernos de marcada orientacion manchesteriana. El ensayo presenta primero una semblanza sobre las expresiones de cada uno de estos periodos, luego describe la propuesta educativa de cada uno de ellos y termina con unas conclusiones generales relativas a lo politico y a lo educativo. Abstract This essay constitutes a new interpretation of the research results obtained by the author about educational development in Neiva city from 1819 to 1861. The current work is based on contextualization of the province with eco- nomic and conceptual points of view, in order to identify three periods: the first one influ- enced by the santanderism (1819-1840), the second by the social christianism or christian utopia (1841 – 1848), and the third by the radical liberalism (1849 – 1857) which ends up with governments of characteristic manchesterian trend. The essay begins with a resemblance of typical expressions from each one of such periods, later it describes the re- spective educational propossal in the three periods, and finally, it ends up with general conclussions related to the political life and education.
