It aims to identify cases of low back pain in office workers of the central area of the University Hospital San Juan De Dios, Cartagena, Colombia, through a descriptive study between July and December 2011. It was used for data collection a questionnaire that took into account demographic variables, working conditions and physical risk factors; results were obtained which were analyzed with tools Excel 2.5. Most of the population belong to the female gender (70%), in the range of aged between 20 and 29 years; a kind of indefinite contracts (57%), ergonomics most relevant were: work in a sitting posture over 8 hours (34%), poor postural hygiene (88%), not conducting active breaks (89%), lumbar muscle discomfort (89%). In conclusion, poor postural hygiene, lack of active breaks and lumbar muscle discomfort were the most important occupational characteristics in this study.
