It was determined that the plant extract marketed in some marketplaces of Pasto city under the name of palmo rosado or chuchuuasa exerts cytotoxicity and genotoxicity in the model of meristematic cells of Allium cepa. Variables such as root growth, mitotic index, root morphology and the appearance of chromosomal aberrations, were evaluated in terms of the concentration. All these variables are affected by exposing the root meristem of onion to the aqueous fraction of the ethanol extract of palmo rosado.
