Ulex europaeus invasions of different ages were characterized as a tool for ecological restoration of the Andean forest, (Area of Usme - south of Bogota D. C., Colombia). Three ages of invasion were considered: 1-3 (recent invasion), 18-22 years (20 year invasion) and greater than 40 years (40 year invasion). Vegetation was sampled by the point intercept method in transects of 50 meters. The Importance Value Index (IVI), Physiognomic Dominance Index (IPF) and Shannon-Wiener diversity index were calculated. Richness and abundance data were compared using Generalized Linear Models (GLM). In the recent invasion the number of species was 29, in 20 year invasion, 65 and 40 year invasion, 53. The GLM showed that the values of Shannon diversity and abundance were significantly different between the recent invasion and invasions of 20 and 40 years. However, species richness did not differ among the three ages of invasion. Meanwhile, abundance values showed differences for the 20 year invasions, when compared with recent invasions and 40 year invasions. Finally, the Sorensen similarity index showed differences in the recent invasion when compared with the invasions of 20 and 40 years.
