Fisiología poscosecha en frutos de dos cultivares de feijoa (Acca sellowiana O. Berg Burret) sometidos a un tratamiento cuarentenario de frío Postharvest physiology of two pineapple guava (feijoa) fruit (Acca sellowiana O. Berg Burret) cultivars submitted to cold quarantine treatment
Quarantine treatment T-107-b (1.67 o C for 22 d) was tested on two pineapple guava cultivars' quality and shelf life. Two cultivars ('Cenaf 41' and Cenaf 8-4') were used. Fruit which had been subjected to cold quarantine treatment was compared with fruit maintained at ambient temperature (19.0 oC), simula- ting conditions during transport and sale. The fruits' internal temperature was recorded during treatment. Fruit was chemically and physiologically analysed before and after the cold quarantine treatment. Res- piration rate presented typical climacteric behaviour. The amount of soluble solids and pH increased whilst titratable acidity decreased. In all cases, the cold qua- rantine treatment had no detectable effect on the organoleptic properties of fruit from both cultivars. Fruit undergoing quarantine treatment and controls showed similar post-harvest behaviour when trans- port and sale conditions were simulated.
