This article presents some of the results achieved in two research projects: A PhD project called Development of an evaluation model of knowledge management in the IT sector in the Colombia coffee-growing region and a research project called: Analysis of computer tools and information systems for knowledge management in SMEs in Bogota, Medellin, Cali, Barranquilla, Bucaramanga, Manizales, Pereira and Armenia. The web system that has been built favors the potential of collective intelligence through social networks, access to online applications, content syndication and multimedia repositories. Different research approaches were used for developing the web system: exploratory, descriptive and explanatory, which together with a methodology for software technology prototypes resulted in the proposed web system.
