Introduction: One of the challenges posed by cancer to the health professionals is the communication of the diagnosis of the disease, because it is not a matter of protocol, but thefirstactionthathasanimpactontheconditionofthepatients,�therefore,�itisneces- sary to review the way in which they are given information. Materials and methods: Thisisareflectivepaperbasedonliteraturethataddressestherelationshipbetween� communication and the course of treatment. Results: The silence and vagueness are common when professionals inform the patients. Discussion: This paper draws atten- tion to the negative impact of the mentioned communication patterns in the course of the disease. Conclusions: The communication skills training should be strengthened so that communication becomes a tool to support the work of health professionals.
