The aim of the following review is to present the development of the research on health-related quality of life in chronic Colombian patients, with special emphasis in its associations with negative emotions. There are described the historical precedents that led to the emergence of the studies of health-related quality of life in Colombia, the principal groups of research and some studies published in the area. Finally, there is done an analysis of the results found in the Colombian studies. Conclusion, the majority of the Colombian studies demonstrate that the patients have a quality of global life perception favorable, do not present clinical levels of anxiety and depression and the relations between quality of life and negative emotions are inversely proportional.
