The following investigation comes from the question about the reaches that oblivion has, as a political category, in regard of the capacity of reconciliation in a divided society, getting into the context of the Colombian case. Through a conceptual review, this study pretends to account on the capacity of oblivion to generate dignity conditions on people that leads to the overcoming of trauma, permitting a coexistence with the memory, conceiving the possibility of forgiveness and the possibility of reconciliation. The use of historical references about transitions determines the fields on which it can be stablished that oblivion is not a contrast to memory, but a complementary tool so it must be guaranteed as a right to all the members of a society.
