La inteligencia emocional ha generado un amplio interes tanto en la comunidad cientifica como en el publico en general. En el presente trabajo se examinaron los hallazgos acerca la relacion entre el concepto de Inteligencia Emocional y las condiciones de salud mental en la poblacion adulta. En primer lugar, se indago la concepcion del constructo de inteligencia emocional segun el modelo de habilidad y el modelo mixto, y la actual polemica acerca de su concepcion. En cuanto a la relacion entre IE y salud mental, se indago las distintas posturas cerca de la correlacion entre estos conceptos. Por un lado se analizaron los hallazgos que demuestran una correlacion positiva, y por el otro aquellos que demuestran una correlacion negativa. Asimismo, se examino si existen o no diferencias en los resultados de esta relacion entre IE y salud mental en funcion del genero. A partir de los hallazgos analizados se puede apreciar las diferentes posturas acerca del constructo de Inteligencia Emocional, su relacion con las condiciones de salud mental y la disparidad en cuanto de los hallazgos en funcion del genero. El creciente interes y la actual polemica reflejan la necesidad e importancia de seguir investigando esta tematica. Palabras clave Inteligencia emocional Salud mental ABSTRACT THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE AND MENTAL HEALTH Emotional intelligence has generated broad interest in both the scientific community and the general public. In the present study was examined the findings about the relationship between the concept of emotional intelligence and mental health conditions among adults. First, it was investigated the concept of emotional intelligence according to the mixed model and the mental ability model, and the current controversy between these models. As for the relationship between EI and mental health, were investigated the different positions about the correlation between these concepts. On one hand, it was analyzed the findings that show a positive correlation, on the other those who show a negative correlation. Also it was examined whether there are differences in the results of this relationship between EI and mental health in terms of gender. Based on the findings discussed, there are reflected the different views of the construct of emotional intelligence, its relationship with mental health conditions and the disparity in findings by gender. The growing interest and the current controversy reflect the need and importance to further investigate this issue. Key words Emotional intelligence Mental health
