Introduccion: se valoro el estado nutricional de ninos menores de 5 anos y el nivel de seguridad alimentaria de sus hogares. Metodos: estudio descriptivo. Se visitaron todos los hogares con menores de 5 anos del corregimiento de la Florida, Pereira, Colombia. Previo consentimiento se aplico la escala ELCSA y valoracion de ninos; se aplicaron curvas de crecimiento de la Organizacion Mundial de la Salud OMS 2006. Los datos se analizaron en Epiinfo 2003. Resultados: se valoraron 40 menores de 5 anos con distribucion igual por sexo. El 33% menores de 2 anos; 43% familias nucleares; 65% con ingresos menores a un salario minimo el 53% percibia algun grado de inseguridad alimentaria, 45% mostro alteraciones en el estado nutricional, 27,5% tenian sobrepeso, 17,5% desnutricion cronica, 12,5% desnutricion global y el 5% desnutricion aguda. Conclusiones: alta proporcion de alteraciones nutricionales en menores del area rural con inseguridad alimentaria, que amerito intervencion inmediata. Deben continuarse controles. Abstract Nutritional status of children under 5 years and their household food security Township Florida . Colombia 2010 Introduction: we evaluated the nutritional status of children under 5 years and the level of household food security. Methods: it was a descriptive study. All households with children under 5 years of the township were visited, informed consent and ELCSA scale were applied and assessment of children, growth curves were applied according to the WHO 2006. The data were analyzed in EpiInfo 2003. Results: 40 children under 5 years with equal sex distribution were evaluated. 33% were less than 2 years, 43% came from nuclear families, 65% earning less than 1 SMLV. 53% perceived some degree of food insecurity and 45% showed changes in nutritional status. 27.5% were overweight. 17.5% presented chronically malnutrition. 12.5% global underweight and 5% from acute malnutrition. Conclusion: there was a high proportion of nutritional disorders in children under the rural area, with food insecurity, that required immediate intervention. Controls must continue.
