Identificar la relación entre la edad de inicio dela alimentación complementaria, la conducta alimentaria y el consumo de frutas, verduras y carnes rojas en los niños de 4 años de edad en Bogotá
It has been shown that eating habits in early years of life can exert effects over the health and nutritional status of a child. Objective: Through this study, it was sought to identify the relationship between age of introduction of complementary foods and consumption of fruit, vegetables and red meat in 4 year olds who participated in a previous study about the implementation of a complementary food guideline at The Suba hospital. Method: The descriptive cross sectional and analytic study was conducted through a mother directed questionnaire that includes i) Socioeconomic information and basic information about child´s eating background (breast feeding and weaning) ii) food frequency questionnaire iii) alimentary conduct questionnaire of the children. Data was obtained by personal or telephone interviews depending on the availability of the mother. Data was analyzed on SPSS analytic program version 22.0 to look for the relations in proportions and average. Results: of the 40 children selected for the study, 11 mothers were interviewed at the Suba Hospital and 19 were interviewed by telephone, having a total of 30 questionnaires completed. Children who initiated the complementary food at 6 the age of months (CF=6m) presented a higher consumption of fruits, vegetables and meat and a greater appetite control at 4 years of age. Conclusion: young children who initiated CF at the age of 6 months show a tendency to have a better eating conduct and to consume more fruits, vegetables and meat. Nevertheless, it is recommended to explore the findings in more depth with a bigger sample.
