The migratory phenomenon has always existed, however, latterly it has gained a particular relevance. For the case of Colombia, there are about four million people living abroad, which means that 1 of each 10 Colombians has left the country to establish abroad. With the aim of establishing the relationship existed between this phenomenon and the poverty, it is analyzed, in the first part, the migrations as a source of wealth, the positive impact of migrations on the labor market, the countries’ economy and the industry, and in the second part, the migrations and the poverty, the precarious conditions of the Colombians living abroad, the discrimination situations they are involved in, the brain drain, the real use given to the remittances in the origin countries. As a conclusion it is determinate that the relationship between the two phenomenon is really close and, in this sense, it is necessary to adopt measures in order to avoid the negative effects of migrations on nationals.
