The arrival of Spanish exiles to Colombia as a result of the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939) meant a flowering of the Colombian educational world, until then apathetic |and outdated. The fact that among the exiles there were a significant number of teachers and educators explains this “golden age” of education in Colombia. The firm commitment of state institutions for the new techniques of the Spanish was central to the launch of education in Colombia in the thirties, forties and fifties. Old educational techniques were abandoned. This article attempts to explain the fate of these exiles, from a standpoint of their labor and living conditions, as well as institutions with which they shared their pedagogical know ledge in Colombia.
