Abstract:

In january 1990, a paramilitary group entered into the village of Pueblo Bello (in Turbo, Antioquia) and forcibly took 43 men, who since then haven´t been seen alive. Some theories about violence suggests that despite the natural destruction of social network it produces, the struggle of the victims seeking reparations can produce wonderful transformations in societies. In the case of Pueblo Bello, this paper analyzes the transformations that have occurred in 22 years of collective action and what has made them possible. The line of argument adopted try to establish if the restoration of dignity, the reconfiguration of citizenship notion and collective action have allowed the transformation of the community in a key political actor in the region. To do the analysis, the theory is contrasted with the reality, the latter expressed through the speech of the victim´s family members and some inhabitants of the village of Pueblo Bello.
