Diseño de un proyecto integrado para la planificación energética y el desarrollo regional de las energías renovables en Colombia basado en sistemas de información geográfica
The two main sources of primary energy in Colombia are in crisis. The fossil fuels that had covered domestic demand for years will not be able to do it for long. The hydro potential, main source of electricity generation, is facing growing difficulties: environmental and social impacts created by large hydroelectric projects and, above all, the climate variability (temperature increase in The Andean Range and increases in the frequency and intensity of El Nino episodes-ENSO). Finally, the huge renewable energy potential is not participating significantly into the national energy mix. UNAL and CIEMAT are collaborating in the development of an integrated energy planning tool. This tool focuses on three main issues: energy supply-demand models, renewable energies integration using GIS and sustainable matrix definition, based on social and environmental multi-criteria analysis and the life-cycle assessment of the different technologies. The tool will be part of a GIS and will support decision making in energy planning providing technical, resources, environmental, social and territorial information.
