Currently the research activity in biotechnology around the world has generated different tools as information networks and collaboration networks between researcher and other teams locally. In Colombia there was not specific information about the current status of networks in biotechnology research, however keeping in mind The New Knowledge Theory, a qualitative study to explore the current status of these networks in the country was run. Information was obtained through interviews, inquiries and web site visits of open access. Finally it was established that information networks for biotechnology are not available in Colombia and that collaboration networks have been created with the use of other tools like ScienTI. Moreover the study generated information about the factors positive and negative that are involved in the biotechnology networks development.
