RESUMEN En su libro El respeto en un mundo de desigualdad, el sociologo estadounidense Richard Sennett busca problematizar, seguir, teorizar y dar soluciones a dos preguntas principales que estructuran su argumento. La primera: ?Por que si el respeto no cuesta nada, es tan escaso? y la segunda: ?Como se podria engrasar la maquina del respeto mutuo, traspasando las fronteras de la desigualdad? Sus principales ideas se sustentan alrededor de lo problematico que resulta respetar y reconocer genuinamente al otro, en un mundo lleno de desigualdades autoritarias que separan a los unos de los otros, y provocan con ello un abismo en donde resulta ambiguo el compromiso o la estima que se puede adquirir con los demas. Es un texto que invita a la refexion particularmente en este contexto nacional de intolerancia, polarizacion, y desconocimiento del otro y de sus valores. Respect: On Human Dignity in an Unequal World ABSTRACT In his book “Respect in a World of Inequality” the sociologist Richard Sennett U.S. seeks to problematize, theorize and provide solutions to two main questions that structure his argument: Why whether respect costs nothing, is so scarce? And how the machine of mutual respect could be fortalice to push the boundaries of inequality? The main ideas of this book are based around how problematic it’s genuinely respect and recognize the other, in a world full of authoritarian inequalities that separate one from another, and thereby cause an abyss where compromise or esteem with others result ambiguous. This book invites to some refection in this age of intolerance, bias and ignorance of others and their values. Key Words: Respect, mutual respect, inequality, intolerance.
