To determine the association between the social determinants of health and the health-related quality of life, with overweight and obesity in adolescents between 15 and 19 years of age in the municipality of Manizales. Materials and methods: Analytical study of cases and controls, in 256 adolescents (128 cases and 128 controls), residing in the municipality of Manizales. Young cases aged 15 to 19 years with BMI> = 25 kg / m2 (overweight and obese), and young controls aged 15 to 19 years with BMI between 18.5 and 24.99 kg / m2, were matched by age and gender 1: 1. Regarding the social determinants of health, no association was found between the level of education, social security in health and the socioeconomic stratum and overweight and obesity; the level of education of the legal representative turns out to be a protective factor for the presence of obesity in adolescents (OR = 0.44, 95% CI = 0.21-0.94, p = 0.031). Significant differences were found in the averages for the dimensions of health status, physical function, body dimension and social function p <0.05 in the cases compared with the controls. The perception of quality of life is different in the cases compared to the controls. Conclusion: The social determinants of health and quality of life are associated with overweight and obesity in adolescents.
