Efecto del contenido de humedad en la resistencia a tensión paralela a la fibra del bambú Guadua Angustifolia Kunth Moisture content's effect on the fiber parallel tensile strength of bamboo Guadua Angustifolia Kunth
Bamboo Guadua is affected by different factors that can modify its strength, and one of those factors is the related with the moisture content. Several studies have shown that the material strength under different load requirements decreases as moisture content increases. Ten culms from three different regions of Colombia were taken to prepare the test samples. The samples were also taken from different parts of each culm (bottom, middle and top). At least seven samples of each section were extracted (so the samples taken from the same piece of bamboo had similar characteristics) and tested with different moisture content. The tensile strength parallel to the fiber and the material moisture content were determined following the Colombian Technical Standards NTC 5525. Results showed that tensile strength of parallel fiber does not decrease as the moisture content of the material was increased in the range of moisture content of the material used as a structural element in constructions.
