This research study explored the school environment in Diego Montana Cuellar IED, having in consideration the teachers’ perceptions. This school environment comprises six dimensions: Structure and processes, facilities, decision making, interpersonal relationships, identity and sense of belonging, and authority. For this study 90 teachers, from the three school branches (El Uval, Monteblanco y Serranias), participated, and a research instrument validated by academic peers was applied. The most relevant results showed that, the dimensions that have a better value between teachers, are the ones that distinguish school environment from the kind of relation that is established between professors and teacher managers. Likewise, the results pointed out that the school teachers have a well-defined identity towards their labor and have a high sense of belonging in relation to the school. On the other hand, the aspects that need to be improved are the negative perceptions to the institutional follow-up processes, deficiencies in the channels of communication, and the difficulties with the facilities and technology to make use of TICs in the classrooms. Finally, as a part of the diagnosis an institutional improvement plan that has in mind the guide 34 from National Education Ministry (Guide for the institutional improvement of self-assessment to the improvement plan) is proposed.
