After analyzing the internal and external, political and social contexts, that preceded Colombian state formation, this article presents a brief study of seven documents that constitute the basis of our public law. In its order are: The Commoner Capitulations, The Offense Memorial, the Independence Act, the Cundinamarca’s Constitution, the Colombian Republic Constitution –issued by the city of Tunja-, the Antioquia State Constitution, and the Cartagena’s Constitution. In every and each of these documents have been identified the ideas, institutions, and politic structures of the European Continent.
