In two coffee regions of Colombia, the socioeconomic and environmental benefits of the adoption of the Sustainable Agriculture Standard (NAS) Rainforest Alliance (RA) as well as some factors that may restrict obtaining certification and maintenance were identified. The methodological procedure, based on strategic alliances with the Extension Service of the National Federation of Coffee Growers, allowed information to be obtained via surveying farmers in certified farms (CE) and uncertified farms (NC), and their statistical analyses involving confidence intervals, measurements of central tendency and chi-square tests. Thus, a diagnosis from the social, environmental, and economic dimensions as well as technological component analyses was obtained. The results indicated that the adoption of the NAS reflects comparative advantages in the system of social and environmental management of EC farms related to the use of protection equipment for pesticide application, greater involvement of farmers in training, restriction of minors work, wastewater treatment, chemical products storage, and integrated waste management.
