The main objective of this work is to explore the capabilities and limitations that the shallow water equations offer based on the analogy of compressible flow to represent the in channel flows through validation with analytical data. The shallow water theory has been widely used to analyze diverse hydrodynamic problems, mainly related to with flow in water bodies, due to its versatility to solve 3D problems in simplified 2D form. On the other hand, the analogy of compressible flow has been used to reduce experimental costs. We use the mathematical relation between the shallow water equation and the compressible gas flow, and implement this equation in PHOENICS code. This paper show a two validation cases with analytic data (Rouse, 1946).
