This work explores and analizes the current situation of biodiesel in Colombia, from an economical point of view, the behavior of biodiesel and crude palm oil prices since the beginning of the current year, the foundation of a legal state by the Colombian government and environmental items like the atmospheric pollution and its contribution on the Greenhouse effect. Finally treats about unknown engineering problems in the productive area like its storage stability (acidification and hydrolysis) and its biodegradability caused by microorganisms like pseudomonas. It concludes that there is a problem related to the biodiesel price definition because of its dependence with the international crude palm oil price (CIF, Rotterdam) and that exist several engineering problems that must be studied deeply to avoid problems during the production and storage of this biofuel.
