En ese orden de ideas, el contrabando se convirtio para nativos y criollos en una practica que hacia parte de las diversas actividades de la vida cotidiana y en un elemento clave de la esfera economica y politica. Los conflictos generados de la configuracion de alianzas y entramados de poder, nos especifican la naturaleza e importancia del contrabando para la poblacion guajira y para muchas de las poblaciones del Caribe. En el siglo XVIII, las conexiones y tratos de la Guajira con el resto del Caribe estaban lo suficientemente consolidadas. El contrabando de ganado y perlas a cambio de armas y aguardiente, realizado en las costas, producia ganancias para quienes se involucraban en dicha actividad. Es asi como la documentacion colonial al registrar la continua participacion tanto de indigenas, como de criollos y autoridades encargadas de controlar la practica ilicita, provee al quehacer historiografico de una invaluable informacion alrededor de una actividad confirmada por muchos autores, pero no estudiada a fondo bajo el microscopio de las especificidades de quienes la llevaban a cabo, sus intereses y los medios que utilizaban para hacerlo. ABSTRACT In this order of ideas, the smuggling became for the natives and creoles a practice that was part of a number of the daily life activities and that was a key element of politics and economy. The conflicts created by the alliances and the framework of power, gives us a full picture of the nature and importance of the smuggling for the guajira population and many other Caribbean populations. In the XVIII century, the connections and deals of Guajira with the rest of the Caribbean where strengthen enough. The cattle and pearls’ smuggling in exchanged of weapons and aguardiente, realized in the shores, produced earnings for whom got involved in this activities. That way the colonial documentation registered the ongoing participation of natives, as creoles and the authorities in charge of controlling the illegal practice, gives to the historiographical taks invaluable information around an activity confirmed by many authors, but yet to be studied in depth under the specificities of whom it was conducted, their interests and the means they used to accomplished it.
