The presence of N. melaena Kirkaldy is reported for Colombia. Notonecta colombiana Hungerford is assigned to the synonymy of N. melaena. This species was collected in several localities of the department of Cundinamarca, Colombia. Some aspects of N. melaena such as, individual and geographical variation, biology and ecology are described, illustrated and discussed.
