The purpose of this research was to evaluate the dimension of quality of life and its relationship with cognitions regarding their illness in 30 patients between the ages of 48 and 82 years old who had been given the diagnosis of Prostate Hyperplasia and who were administered the Short Form Health Survey (SF-36), the Illness Cognitive Questionnaire (ICQ) and the International Prostate Symptom Score (I-PSS). Results showed an important deterioration in the quality of life of these patients. Cognitions about the disease got an average score in all their dimensions and a very negative appraisal of the prostate symptoms was found. In conclusion, the unfavorable perception of the Prostate Hyperplasia increases with the severity of the physical symptoms especially due to the impact these have on the associated psychosocial factors, thus affecting the quality of life of the people who suffer from this disease.
