Este articulo pone de manifiesto la situacion de desigualdad, atraso y subdesarrollo de nuestro pais en el contexto mundial, y considera a la educacion como el unico camino que posibilita el cambio, que puede permitir un desarrollo sostenible y generar el bienestar para la colectividad. La universidad y sus grandes transformaciones son tratadas a luz de los planteamientos generales presentados en la conferencia mundial de la educacion superior realizada en Paris en 1998. En cuanto a la educacion colombiana se evidencia que esta diagnosticada y que hay necesidad de voluntad politica para lograr las transformaciones que se requieren. La situacion de Colombia se analiza a la luz de documentos tales como “Colombia al filo de la oportunidad”, “Educacion: la agenda del siglo XXI”, documentos de ASCUN y una presentacion breve de la revolucion educativa planteada por el actual gobierno. ABSTRACT This article presents the situation of inequality, regression, and underdevelopment of our country in a worldwide context, and considers education as the only way to promote change that will further sustainable development and generate well-being for the community at large. The university and its great changes are highlighted in the general statements presented in an international lecture on tertiary education held in Paris in 1988. With regard o Colombian education, political willingness is the diagnosis suggested to implement and achieve the desired transformation for Colombia. Moreover, Colombia’s situation is analyzed by ASCUN and in documents such as “Colombia at the edge of opportunity” “Education: the agenda of the 21 st century”, and in a brief presentation of the educational revolution presented by the recurrent government.
