This article is a synthesis of the final report of the research dealing with Rhetoric and Mental Health within family relationships as manifested between parents and children in the city of Cali-Colombia. The manner in which subjects label relationships in daily family life, relates to particular discourse construction in which the narrative genre and the rhetoric used have the persuasive power to both make natural and to impose specific practical knowledge. This knowledge influences others as well as the author, thus reproducing social realities shared. Lastly, a critical task is formulated, recognizing that not only are dominant forms of well-being assured, but, paradoxically, other alternative constructions of reality emerge which are susceptible to divergent interpretations as well.
