Given the importance of training the librarians of Colombia and Latin America in the promotion of reading, this article presents the results of a study entitled “The Librarian as Promoter of Reading and its Pedagogical Bases.” It begins with the basic concepts having to do with the promotion of reading and its sociological role, and then proceeds to the importance of teaching the basic concepts needed by librarians to promote reading in this area. This article concludes with the methodology used in the study, along with conclusions, proposals, and recommendations that can be utilized in other regional contexts.
