Osteoporosis is a major public health problem in a worldwide and its prevalence is increasing. The secondary osteoporosis can be produced by several pathologies and the drug use. Glucocorticoids are a group of grugs widely used in medical practice due to their unquestionable utility. Glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis (GIOP) is a significant public health issue. Although the pathogenesis of glucocorticoid mediated bone loss is not completely understood, recent research has provided new insights on the mechanisms of glucocorticoid action at the cellular and molecular level. A number of guidelines have been proposed by different groups for the treatment of steroid induced osteoporosis, unfortunately the guides of treatment for the GIOP are not used appropriately in the patients.
