This paper shows the results of an investigation based on a descriptive study focused on establishing the characteristics of communicative interaction in a group of children aged 5 to 24 months of chronological age, with motor impairment evident in the dyad baby – carer. The method used to collect observational data was non-participant, using a video recording techniques and a subsequent film of the same anecdotal record. The results are related to the characteristics of infantcaregiver interaction in accordance with the proposed model for the development of interactive competence in early childhood, taking into account aspects such as primary intersubjectivity, joint attention, joint action, the capabilities of imitation, communicative intentions and strategies of the caregiver.
