This article describes the changes in the methodology used to calculate the size and structure of the employment force in the country; and it analyzes the situation of the new job positions created in Colombia. It includes, in a parallel way, the world’s employment tendencies, in order to make a comparison between the Colombian job market and that of Latin America. This paper discloses that the population affected by unemployment in Colombia, by genre as well as by age, is equal to that of Latin America, i.e., the population that is vulnerable to unemployment coincides in the different countries; nonetheless, the article criticizes the proposals of work flexibility that have been introduced as a solution to unemployment.
