The article presents an explorative analysis of narrative strategies in the E. P. Thompson work, especially in The Making, and secondary in works as Misery of Theory. This is developed in the frame of a contemporary historiography about analysis of historical discourse (especially, Hyden White) and the sociology of Pierre Bourdieu. In this sense, the Thompson discourse is taken as the product of an ontogenetic process and a structure of familiar, politic and academic relationships (in the context of England left wing and Marxist historiography, between 1950s and 1970s) that make possible an understanding of the form of the account.
