Abstract:
Custom Power devices are novel controllers based on Power Electronics and Static Power Converters. Their main task is to improve the quality of the service of the electrical distribution systems serving all kinds of loads (industrial, commercial, residential, etc). This work focuses mainly in the study, analysis and simulation of such a novel device called Static Power Compensator D-STATCOM applied to a Colombian power system in which are included several loads that causes Power Quality phenomena as voltage fluctuations, steady state voltage deviation, sags and swells. A virtual laboratory of CPE implemented in program PSCAD/EMTDC © was used to put the interested network under phenomena caused by faults, direct starting of motors, capacitors switching, and connection and disconnection of large bordering loads; observing its impact on a user, with and without the presence of the D-STATCOM device. This impact was valued observing the behavior of the users voltage level (profile of the r.m.s value) and by means of the algorithm that the IEC proposes to measure the Electromagnetic Compatibility of the wave of voltage respect to voltage fluctuations. Which is demonstrated that this D-STATCOM device can mitigate an ample range of Power Quality disturbances as the previously mentioned.
