This article presents the historical development of microstrainers and their main application in water treatment. It also proposes the possibility to use technology in “polishing” the effluent of wastewater treatment that uses stabilization ponds to particularly reduce the content of algae. And the article concludes that the microstrainers allow us to reach satisfactory reduction efficiencies of suspended solids and some species of algae. They also represent an alternative that, in combination with the conventional processes, could improve the performance of water treatment plants.
