The article traces the relationship between social history and oral history, always taking into consideration the Latin American and Colombian context. In the first place it considers the historiographical route that goes from the history “from below” to Subaltern Studies. Then it looks at the methodological and epistemological outcomes of the different approaches to oral history. Finally some questions are posed to the recent historiographical and methodological developments.
