Presenta un resultado parcial de una investigacion sobre el desarrollo de la educacion que forjo la civilizacion griega, y que parte de la pregunta por la transformacion de los paradigmas educativos que conducen a una formacion del ser humano, que lo convierte en ser politico. Se puede entender por formacion el acto de moldear el comportamiento y el pensamiento del ser humano, que permita hacer de este una pieza util para la sociedad, en tanto puede, a traves de su propio oficio, participar en el sostenimiento de la sociedad. Para cumplir con el anterior objetivo, se hace una lectura de las categorias que sostienen la nocion de educacion en Grecia entre los siglos VIII y IV a. C. o periodo arcaico, haciendo enfasis en el papel del arte como divulgador de los ideales de la sociedad griega. A partir de la obra del filosofo y filologo aleman Werner Jaeger, titulada Paideia, se rastrea la categoria arete, virtud que se convirtio en canon para la formacion del individuo griego, esta virtud se encuentra ubicada por encima de la paideia, y proporciona importantes elementos para entender la historia de la educacion de la civilizacion griega. Abstract It presents an investigation’s partial result on the education development, which modeled the Greek civilization and that starts from the question about the educational paradigms that take us to the human formation which turns one, into a political being. Formation can be understood as the human thinking and behavior’s molding act, which allows making out of a person a society’s useful part, by enabling him throughout his own duty, participate in the society’s preservation. To fulfill with the above mentioned objective, a categories’ reading on the educational notion in Greece is made, between the VIII and IV centuries B.C., or archaic period, emphasizing in the art role as a promoter of the Greek’s society ideals. Starting from the German philosopher and philologist Werner Jaeger’s work, named “Paideia”, it is searched the arete’s category, virtue which turned out to be a model to the Greek individual formation. This virtue is placed above the paideia, and provides important elements to understand the Greek civilization’s education History. Key word: Arete, Education, Paideia, Greece, Art.
