The guajava's fruits are the result ofthe receptacle and the ovary growth. The fruit pulp, that is to say, the eating part has its origen in the carpel walls that consti- tute the ovary. The volume increment or pericarp growing of Psidium guajava L. is due, in the first instars of fruit development, to the celular multiplication and posterior enlargment and breaking of many celular walls, as weJl as to the radial enlargment of the cells which are localized around the fluid conducting vessels, esclereids and oil canals.
