Es un hecho que hoy en dia el uso de software esta siendo mas popular que nunca, especificamente hablando de software libre, no solo por las ventajas que tiene en comparacion con el software que no es libre, sino por el nivel de aceptacion que ha alcanzado a traves de diferentes comunidades. Tambien es importante diferenciar el software libre de otro tipo de software como el freeware, software con el codigo fuente o software de dominio publico, que puede ser confuso y confundido por muchas personas por la falta de conocimiento. Hay varios sistemas de licencias y es importante saber cuando utilizar uno u otro, porque a pesar del hecho de que cada uno garantiza el concepto de libertad de un modo u otro, cada uno tiene sus propias caracteristicas y propiedades, lo que significa que puede beneficiar a los desarrolladores y programadores de diferentes maneras, siempre asegurando el acceso completo libre de las obras a otros usuarios tambien. Todo lo mencionado anteriormente, no solo delimita las preferencias en el uso de software libre, sino tambien la tendencia en el uso de los sistemas de licencias. Este documento se centrara unicamente en el caso de America Latina, que con mas estudios se podria ampliar a nivel mundial. PALABRAS CLAVE: Esquemas de licenciamiento, software libre. ABSTRACT It is a fact that now days the use of software is being more popular than ever, specifically speaking of free software, not only for the advantages it has compared to non free software but for the level of acceptance it has reached across different communities. It is also important to differentiate free software from other kind of software such as freeware, software with source code or software with public domain, which can be confused and mistaken by many people for the absence of knowledge. There are several licensing schemes and it is important to know when to use one or other, because despite the fact that each one guarantees the concept of freedom in one way or another, each one has their own characteristics and properties, meaning it can benefit developers and programmers in different ways, always assuring the complete free access of the works to other users as well. All mentioned above not only demarcates preferences in the usage of free software but also tendency in the use of the licensing schemes.
