Background: the treatment of depression during pregnancy and breastfeeding is a true challenge for the clinical, reason why it’s imperative to take control of the present knowledge on the implications of the use of antidepressants in this context. Objectives: the objective of this review is to offer the physician the necessary elements to make a clinical decision based on the present evidence. Methods: review. Results: all antidepressants have fetus-placental transmission and are excreted in maternal milk. No antidepressant has been approved as a Category A Agent by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for its use during pregnancy and/or breastfeeding.
