In this article we will show the history of the first years of the Art Museum of the National University -an institution that has not yet aroused enough interest for an in-depth study- that will give us clues as to how it assumed the transformations of the art of its moment and contributed to the construction of new proposals in the Colombian art of the beginning of the seventies. In the first place, the first experiences of the Museum of Modern Art (MAM) within the National University are narrated, then a contextualization of the economic and political circumstances of the beginning of the Museum project will be made. Emphasis will also be placed on the process of design and construction of the Museum of Art building, and finally the contribution of the management of German Rubiano in the direction of the Museum will be reviewed, a meritorious management, which managed to position the Museum as one of the scenarios most important art exhibitions in the city of Bogota.
